Route & General Observations

Rode up to treeline in main drainage of Lynx Creek.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Moderate snowfall throughout the day with about 6-8" of total accumulation at the Johnson Pass trailhead when we left. Wind was calm and visibility was obscured. Very flat light one you got out of the trees. Snow down to sea level.

Snow surface

About a foot of soft new snow on top of settled snow. Riding conditions were quite good.

Snowpack

We dug a pit on a NE aspect at about 2000' near treeline. The facets on top of the New Years crust were buried about 55 cm but did not show any propagation in our ECT. There were a few layers within the new snow that failed on the ECT but none that propagated. Overall stability seemed good in our location, but we had no visibility to observe the terrain around us. With the rate of new snowfall today I assume the steeper slopes were sluffing.
